Engaged and The double date from Hell

Since this is my first post in a long while, I think it's best to get the bad stuff out of the way first and end with something good. This past weekend, I decided to go on a double date with some friends. The guy (we'll just call him that to keep everything on the DL) is someone I used to volunteer with and he is kind of a drinking buddy of mine. Jeremy sorta gets along with him since they are both ex-Navy. The girl is a co-worker of Jeremy's and I've chatted with her on the bus from time to time. "Why did everything go to Hell?" is probably what some of you are asking.

We had a video game night at my house and almost the entire time the new couple we're pawing each other. That's understandable. Me and Jeremy we're lovey-dovey too once. However, when it's happening in my home and on my couch, I get slightly annoyed. But this isn't what's worse. The guy has become completely disrespectful. He made fun of me to the point where I was pretty mad and he even made fun of Jeremy for giving me the ring pictured above. All the while, he was all kissy towards the girl. I didn't know he was capable of being such a softie but he's also being an outright...well, I'll spare you the language, fair reader.

The girl is super nice. I would like to think she is an innocent by-stander in all this but she is putting up with him. And for dating a guy like this, I have lost some repsect for her. I have talked to some of the guy's female friends and they agree that he has changed for the worse somewhat. He's treating girls, other than his girlfriend, as though they are lower than dirt. A real man treats all women fairly. That's this woman's opinion.

In closing of the bad, I would like to touch on a few points. When I wrote that me and Jeremy we're lovey-dovey once, this does not imply that we aren't now. We've been dating for over 3 years. We do have the physical affection of a young couple but we are practical and have a good grasp on reality. This guy and girl may be taking random trips to Oregon, spending their money on each other like no other, and meeting one another's parents (though they have been dating for barely a month), I'd like to see them try three years on for size. And to the guy's retort about Jeremy getting engaged to me and buying a ring, He may very well be doing the same thing some day. He just needs to become both decent and a man first. End rant.

Onto the good! As alot of you now know, I'm engaged! It all went down in Copenhagen on our last day in Europe. Jeremy did the traditional "ask my parents" for permission and I did the whole " I'm completely unaware" thing. He asked to spend the rest of his life with me at the Little Mermaid statue. I laughed and cried. I also wanted to tell random people I was engaged but they would think I was some crazy tourist on account of me not speaking Danish. Here's something for the geeks out there. This was in July of last year and right now, we are planning for the wedding in the fall. In October of last year, Jeremy presented me with this ring pictured. This is geeky but he snuck it into the graphic novel I was reading (Watchmen). It's engraved on the inside. It says "kitsiikakomimmo" which is "I love you" in Siksika. As for the wedding, it's going to be low key but with alot of family being there. I should definitely do the blog thing more often. I feel better already!

Ahhh Ari! that was heartwarming, the second part I mean...as for the drinking buddy maybe you could introduce him to a big Humboldt shark. :) And you should tell me about the book Watchmen, somebody mentioned it the other day and I'd like to read it.
